Industrial Training Provides EC Students With New Skills
24 May 2018, KUCHING: Executive College (EC) students pursuing Bachelor of Business Administration (Hons) recently finished their three-month industrial training with various companies here.
They were attached to companies such as KTS Group of Companies (Noble Corporation Sdn Bhd, Blakford Insurance Ltd, KTS Trading Sdn Bhd, KTS Holdings Sdn Bhd), Papa’s Tarts and Puffs (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd, CLZ Resources Sdn Bhd, Wawasan Sedar Sdn Bhd, Katas Credit Leasing Sdn Bhd, Hormat Pasifik Sdn Bhd, L&M Entertainment Association and Coramax Mall Sdn Bhd.
The students were involved in many areas of business operations, from sales and marketing to design, research, finance, human resource management and administrative tasks.
Over the course of their internship, the students not only learned how to apply what they have learnt in class, they also learned new skills such as time management, communication or interpersonal skills, and experienced how it was like to work in companies with a hierarchical system.
Edmund Lau and Michelle Chan, who completed their three-month industrial training with Papa’s Tarts and Puffs, helped their company market its products through online and offline marketing; designing flyers, brochures, menus, posters and backdrops; carrying out research of competitors and collecting feedback from customers.
“We learned how to communicate more effectively with our boss through meetings and even WhatsApp group chat,” said Chan.
For Brooks Sim, who worked under CLZ Resources Sdn Bhd, he performed many duties during his internship ranging from sales and technical support, research and development, and cashier duties to customer service and warehouse keeping.
“Being a perfectionist, I have a high expectation of myself and I cannot say no to any request. This industrial training has taught me that I cannot perform a one-man show and must learn to trust others,” he said.
The Bachelor of Business Administration (Hons) offered at EC is a three-year degree programme in collaboration with Infrastructure University Kuala Lumpur (IUKL), which is also accredited and recognised by the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) and Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).
This programme prepares students to embark on their career in fields such as marketing, finance and banking, human resource management and international business.
EC also offers Foundation in Arts, Diploma in Quantity Surveying, Diploma in Business Administration and Bachelor of Technology (Hons) Construction Management.
The biggest advantage for students studying at the college is that EC offers 100 per cent job priority when they apply for positions in KTS Group of Companies.
EC is also the only private institution in Sarawak to give away iPads as a learning tool for students by integrating the technology into the curriculum, making lessons more interactive.
The college, which is located on the second floor of Crown Square here, welcomes walk-ins to its extended counselling sessions available on a daily basis between 9am to 4pm for those who would like to enquire more about its programmes.
