Executive College students embrace online learning
KUCHING: Executive College (EC) students migrated from physical classrooms to online virtual learning platforms upon the start of the Movement Control Order (MCO) in March. EC has implemented several methods to cope with the switch to online to accommodate different teaching needs required of the subjects. The two main online modes are synchronous – where students and lecturers engage and interact in real-time, and asynchronous learning – where pre-recorded videos or narrated slides are provided for the students who missed the lectures or to reinforce lectures repeatedly. EC said in a statement students and lecturers are gradually adapting to learning remotely from home. “Through online learning, I can practise good time management by organising my time between study and leisure,” said Quantity Surveying student Alva Ting. “I think online learning is convenient for me as I do not need to commute to college, hence saving time and petrol,” said Business student Nadine Roscia Jenal. Construction Management student Verena Tsau said, “I can access our study material anytime and anywhere easily as they are now online.” EC utilises various virtual classroom and communication apps such as iTunes U, Zoom, Google Meet, Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams, and WhatsApp to interact with students. Students unable to study from home due to poor Internet connection, those who need to carry out practical hands-on learning, and new intake students can return to the college from July 1. EC’s next intake on June 29 is for the Foundation in Arts, Diploma in Business Administration, Diploma in Quantity Surveying, Bachelor of Business Administration (Hons), and Bachelor of Technology (Hons) in Construction Management. All programmes offered are fully accredited and recognised by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency and Ministry of Higher Education, which allow graduates to look for a job or further their studies throughout Malaysia.
